Tanzanian singer-songwriter Becka Ibrozama has officially returned with his highly anticipated new EP, AURORA, marking his first major project in more than 10 years and opening a fresh chapter in his musical journey.

The release represents both a homecoming and a reintroduction. Much of Becka’s earlier career developed before streaming platforms and social media transformed how artists connect with audiences around the world. As a result, a new generation of listeners has had limited opportunity to discover his music and experience his artistry.

With AURORA, Becka changes that. The EP brings him back into the spotlight while allowing him to reconnect with longtime supporters and introduce his sound to a new generation of listeners across Tanzania, Africa and beyond.

Across the project, Becka blends Afrobeats, Afropop, contemporary R&B and Bongo Flava, creating a sound that feels rooted in his Tanzanian identity while embracing a more contemporary approach. Sung primarily in Swahili, the EP remains closely connected to the melodic character of Bongo Flava while giving Becka space to explore different moods and emotions.

AURORA moves through themes of love, heartbreak, hope, resilience and faith, with each song offering a different perspective on the experiences that have shaped Becka over the years. Despite the range of emotions, the project is held together by an underlying sense of renewal.

That idea is central to the EP’s title. An aurora represents the emergence of light after darkness, making it a fitting symbol for Becka’s return after such a long period away from major releases. The project reflects a personal and creative rebirth, with the artist stepping into a new phase with greater maturity and renewed purpose.

Becka’s musical identity is also informed by some of the biggest names in international R&B and pop. Michael Jackson, Usher and Chris Brown are among his key influences, particularly in their approach to melody, vocal expression and contemporary songwriting. Those influences complement the Tanzanian musical foundation that remains at the core of AURORA.

The result is a project that looks both backward and forward. Becka draws from the musical tradition that helped shape his career while embracing sounds capable of connecting with today’s listeners. Rather than treating his decade-long absence as a limitation, AURORA turns that period into part of the story.

His return arrives as Tanzanian music continues to gain greater international attention, with Bongo Flava and other East African sounds reaching audiences well beyond the region. Through AURORA, Becka adds his voice to that movement, carrying the richness of Swahili songwriting and Tanzanian musical culture toward a wider audience.

For longtime listeners, the EP represents the return of an artist whose journey was interrupted by a changing musical landscape. For those discovering him for the first time, it serves as an introduction to an experienced songwriter entering a new creative era.

AURORA is ultimately about light, renewal and moving forward. After more than a decade away from releasing a major project, Becka Ibrozama has returned with a body of work that reconnects him with his roots while positioning his music for a new generation.
