Afropop star Mr Eazi is back with a new single, “Comfort,” featuring Ghanaian-American singer MOLIY, the breakout artist behind the global hit “Shake It to the Max (FLY).”

Produced by Nigerian hitmaker Ragee, known for his work with Davido on “Unavailable” and Ayra Starr on “Hot Body” and “Who’s Dat Girl,” “Comfort” sees Mr Eazi return to the breezy, rhythm-led sound that has been central to his musical identity.

The track rides on a bouncy rhythm, bubbly bass synths and relaxed vocal performances, blending elements of Afrobeats, dancehall, hip-hop and R&B. It also continues the fusion-driven style Mr Eazi famously described as Banku Music.

“This is an updated version of my signature sound,” Mr Eazi says of the record, which was recorded during a stay in London this summer. “I’m making gyal dem music—sweet, easy, flattering gyal dem music.”

The collaboration also carries a strong Ghana connection for Mr Eazi. Although born in Nigeria, the singer moved to Ghana to study at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, where his musical career began taking shape.

His time in Ghana played an important role in the development of the sound that would eventually become known as Banku Music. Some of his earliest major collaborations also came through his relationships with Ghanaian artists and producers.

Among those records was “Bankulize,” featuring Ghanaian rapper Pappy Kojo and produced by Ghanaian-British producer Juls. The song helped introduce Mr Eazi’s blend of Ghanaian musical influences, Nigerian melodies and Pidgin storytelling to a wider audience.

He later teamed up with Efya on “Skin Tight,” another Juls-produced record that became one of the defining songs of his early career and an important representation of the Banku Music sound.

Mr Eazi has since maintained strong creative ties with Ghana, collaborating with artists including Sarkodie on “Anointing,” Eugy on “Dance For Me” and King Promise on “Dabebi.” His work with Ghanaian producers such as Juls, GuiltyBeatz and KillBeatz has also contributed to his catalogue, including “Akwaaba,” “Pilolo” and “Business.”

His latest collaboration with MOLIY therefore adds another chapter to that long-running connection between Mr Eazi and Ghana’s music scene.

MOLIY has emerged as one of the contemporary Ghanaian voices making an impact internationally, particularly through “Shake It to the Max,” whose remix reached No. 1 on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart before later entering the Billboard Hot 100.

“Comfort” brings together two artists from different points in Ghana’s evolving global Afropop story: Mr Eazi, whose Banku Music helped bring Ghanaian sonic influences into wider Afrobeats conversations, and MOLIY, part of a new generation of Ghanaian artists taking that influence to audiences around the world.
