South African Amapiano producer and DJ Sfarzo Rtee is entering a new chapter with the release of his latest album, EMPINI, a project centred on resilience, ambition and the determination to keep pushing forward in an increasingly competitive music industry.
Meaning “at war” or “in battle” in isiZulu, EMPINI draws on the struggles that accompany personal and professional growth. Rather than positioning himself against his peers, Sfarzo uses the title to reflect the ongoing challenges of building a career, protecting his creative identity and striving for longevity in a constantly evolving scene.
The album follows Rethabile, his acclaimed 2025 project, which explored themes of love, heartbreak and healing through soulful melodies and detailed production. Its number-one debut on Apple Music marked a major career milestone, setting the stage for this new body of work. While Rethabile offered a more intimate look into the producer’s emotional world, EMPINI signals a renewed sense of purpose and a willingness to embrace the demands of his journey.
Originally from Polokwane, Limpopo, and musically shaped by his time in Pretoria, Sfarzo has steadily built a reputation within Amapiano’s Sgija movement. Projects such as the House of Sgija series and The New Testament showcase his distinctive production approach, while collaborations with Kelvin Momo, Josiah De Disciple and DBN Gogo have further expanded his presence within the genre.
On EMPINI, that established musical identity remains central. The album moves between soulful moments and energetic dancefloor arrangements, bringing together a diverse cast of collaborators, including Jinger Stone, Mashudu, De Rose, Portia KM, Tracy, Baby S.O.N, Mkeyz and Sipho Magudulela. Their contributions bring different vocal colours and musical textures to a project that balances introspection with Amapiano’s unmistakable rhythmic appeal.
Leading the album campaign is “Ndimi Ndimi,” featuring De Rose and Portia KM. Built around a playful take on romance and the desire to be someone’s favourite person, the track pairs flirtatious storytelling with an upbeat groove designed for the dancefloor.
The song has already attracted attention through Sfarzo’s TikTok previews, which have accumulated more than 600,000 views and 100,000 likes ahead of its official release. The early engagement offers a glimpse of the excitement surrounding the record and places it among the project’s key moments.
Ultimately, EMPINI captures an artist reflecting on how far he has come while remaining focused on what lies ahead. It acknowledges the sacrifices behind every achievement and the persistence required to keep evolving without losing sight of one’s sound.
For Sfarzo Rtee, the battle represented by EMPINI is an internal one: the pursuit of growth, creative independence, and a lasting place in Amapiano. It is a statement of intent from a producer determined to keep moving forward on his own terms.
