Two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer, Tems, announces today the launch of the Leading Vibe Initiative, a groundbreaking platform designed to support, connect, and amplify young women in music across Africa, with a vision to expand its impact globally. Set to debut this August with programming in her hometown of Lagos, Nigeria, the Leading Vibe Initiative will provide emerging artists, songwriters,s and producers with the tools, resources and connections to propel their creative journeys. With additional rollouts slated in Africa later this year, the initiative plans to eventually expand to major cities around the world.
“My goal with the Leading Vibe Initiative is to help discover and support talented young women who have the potential to redefine the industry,” said Tems. “By providing access, tools and opportunity, we’re creating space for them to find their voices, step into their power and shape the future of music across the continent and globally.”
Inspired by Tems’ own journey as a young woman and outsider in the music industry — navigating with limited resources or support — the Leading Vibe Initiative aims to empower the next generation of female artists, producers, songwriters, and music professionals, increasing female representation across every corner of the music industry. Reports indicate that only 22% of artists, 12.8% of songwriters, and 3% of music producers worldwide are women. Through partnerships with some of the world’s leading industry professionals, the initiative aims to unlock access to training, mentorship, resources, and pivotal career opportunities for emerging young women in music.
The initiative launches with an open call for applicants based in Nigeria to its inaugural program in Lagos, taking place August 8–9. The initiative will kick off with an intimate event, followed by a day-long immersive experience for a select group of emerging talent.
Through a series of workshops, masterclasses, and panel discussions, participants will gain hands-on training, access to world-class tools, and connections to established industry executives and leaders. Through a growing network of partnerships with some of the world’s leading artists, industry executives and leaders, the initiative will deliver hands-on training, creative workshops and masterclasses, mentorship, cutting-edge music production technology provided by Native Instruments, and access to career-shaping opportunities.
