Namibian producer, DJ and songwriter Gina Jeanz is back with her latest single ‘Ride’, a hypnotic Afro House record that blends deep tribal percussion, organic rhythms and breezy Balearic textures into an immersive listening experience.
Released via Temper Tone, ‘Ride’ finds Gina leaning into the more organic side of electronic music. Rolling drums form the foundation of the track as layered percussion and subtle textures gradually build around an infectious groove, creating a sound that feels both rooted and contemporary.
At its core, ‘Ride’ is about movement, freedom and letting go. Rather than rushing towards a dramatic climax, Gina allows the production to unfold naturally, giving the rhythm enough space to pull listeners in and carry them along.
“‘Ride’ is about letting go and allowing the music to take over,” Gina explains. “I wanted to create something that feels grounding but liberating at the same time, a record that connects people through rhythm while carrying that feeling of warmth, openness and escape.”
That sense of freedom is central to Gina’s artistic identity. Her music draws inspiration from African-rooted rhythms and the wider sounds of the African diaspora, while incorporating elements of Electronica, Afro House and Afro Tech. The result is a sound that feels connected to its roots without being restricted by them.
‘Ride’ also arrives during an exciting period for Gina, who has continued to build an international reputation through both her productions and DJ performances. Classically trained before spending 12 years immersed in Cape Town’s music scene, she has developed a distinctive approach that balances detailed electronic production with the emotional and physical pull of African rhythms.
The new single also comes alongside an ambitious visual performance. Gina is set to premiere a live set filmed from a hot air balloon above the Swiss Alps, with the performance taking place against the backdrop of an early morning ascent. The idea was originally imagined over the landscapes of her native Namibia, but took an unexpected turn after Gina reconnected with a pilot she had met during her first balloon flight back home. After the pilot relocated to Europe, a chance introduction eventually led to the performance being realised in Switzerland, where Gina now lives.
The balloon set closely reflects the spirit of ‘Ride’. As the landscape changes below, Gina’s carefully curated selection develops alongside the journey, embracing the same ideas of stillness, trust and surrender that shape the new single.
Gina’s journey has already taken her to major festivals and venues around the world. Her independent debut album Lucid Theory earned international attention in 2021, with ‘100ml’ landing on Billboard’s Best New Dance Tracks. Since then, she has performed at Caprices Festival, UNUM, Montreux Jazz Festival, Amnesia Ibiza, KOKO Electronic, Afropunk and Rocking the Daisies.
Her music has also received support from influential platforms including Beatport, DJ Mag, Resident Advisor, BBC Radio 1Xtra, Soulection, Rinse FM, Earmilk and Notion, further establishing her as one of Africa’s exciting voices in electronic music.
Beyond her work in the studio and behind the decks, Gina remains committed to creating opportunities for the next generation of African electronic artists, particularly women entering the scene. Her journey from Namibia to Cape Town and now Switzerland continues to inform an artistic identity built around connection, exploration and pushing African electronic music into new spaces.
