Nigerian singer-songwriter De Gold is blending Afrobeats, faith, and personal experience on his new single, “Devotion,” released on September 18, 2026.

Rooted in Afrobeats with an Afrogospel flavour, the track is built around a motivational message for early risers, dreamers and people determined to keep pushing towards something bigger.

Interestingly, “Devotion” was never planned.

The song came together during a studio session with producer sosickpro. While the pair were experimenting with different sounds, De Gold began humming harmonies over one of the beats.

When the producer moved on without noticing the idea, De Gold asked him to return to the beat, convinced that there was something worth exploring. Instead of sitting down with a prepared concept, the singer began freestyling about his state of mind after returning from a trip that had come at a personal cost, including having to sell some of his belongings.

That spontaneous moment eventually developed into “Devotion.” De Gold decided to complete the record himself, believing that its message could connect with someone who needed to hear it. For listeners, his advice is simple: give the song time and keep listening until its message begins to make sense.

For the artiste, the record already carries a personal significance. He recalls periods when he struggled to sleep, and says the song has since become a source of comfort.

At its heart, “Devotion” is a morning motivational record aimed at what De Gold describes as the “born hustlers.” Its message encourages listeners to praise God every day regardless of what they may be going through.

The song also carries a piece of De Gold’s cultural background through the steady “konkon” rhythm that runs through the production. For the Akwa Ibom artiste, the sound is connected to the masquerade tradition of his village, where the rhythm is played during festive celebrations. That cultural reference gives the track another layer beyond its motivational and spiritual message.

Born Ini-obong Cletus Echoi in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, De Gold discovered his connection to music through the church. Raised by his parents and church figures who played an important role in his childhood, he began his musical journey as a chorister before eventually becoming a choir conductor.

Leading a large choir further developed his interest in combining words, rhymes and melodies, eventually inspiring him to begin writing songs of his own. With “Devotion,” De Gold turns an unexpected studio moment and personal experience into a record centred on faith, perseverance and finding comfort while chasing bigger goals.
