Rising Nigerian singer and rapper MC Shocker has released his latest Afrobeat EP, Was Once In Love, a deeply personal project rooted in resilience, faith, and emotional honesty. The new body of work showcases the artist’s ability to turn real-life struggles into powerful musical expression, positioning him as one of the emerging voices to watch in Nigeria’s evolving Afrobeat landscape.

Inspired by the everyday challenges and victories that shape his journey, Was Once In Love unfolds as a bold statement of self-belief. Throughout the EP, MC Shocker addresses those who doubt him, making it clear that no opposition can dim his light. Grounded in prayer and guided by faith, the project highlights his devotion to God and his commitment to compassion, including giving back to those in need.

Despite the emotional weight behind the music, the EP was completed in an intense four-day creative sprint. MC Shocker took full control of the process, recording the project solo without external features or collaborators. Crafted in a notable studio, the EP reflects raw sincerity and passion, qualities the artist believes will allow the music to connect with listeners across borders.

Born on June 16, 2002, and raised in Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, with roots in Ogun State, MC Shocker discovered his love for music during his first year of secondary school. From an early age, he gravitated toward songwriting that explored love, motivation, life experiences, and unfiltered emotion. His ability to blend Yoruba and English lyrics has become a defining element of his sound.

MC Shocker first introduced himself to audiences with his debut EP, THE SHOCKER (2022), which laid the foundation for his growing artistry. His stage name originates from a secondary school nickname, “shockfish,” later rebranded as MC Shocker. The initials “MC” stand for Mom Choice, a tribute to his mother, who affectionately regards him as her favourite among her three children.

With Was Once In Love, MC Shocker continues to refine his voice while staying true to his roots, faith, and storytelling. Influenced by Nigerian rap icon Olamide, he blends Afrobeat rhythms with introspective lyricism, creating music that resonates both emotionally and culturally.
