Afropop sensations Ayra Starr (Nigeria) and Tyla (South Africa) have been confirmed as performers for the 2025 Global Citizen Festival, joining an all-star lineup including The Weeknd, Shakira, and Mariah the Scientist. The event will take place on September 27, 2025, at Central Park’s Great Lawn in New York City, hosted by award-winning actor Hugh Jackman.
Under the theme “Amplify the Movement,” this year’s festival continues Global Citizen’s mission to combat poverty, inequality, and social injustice through music and advocacy. The inclusion of Ayra Starr and Tyla highlights their meteoric rise as global ambassadors of African pop culture, following breakout hits and international acclaim.
Ayra Starr, fresh off her MOBO and BET Awards wins, and Tyla, whose Grammy-winning single “Water” became a global phenomenon, represent the new wave of African artists reshaping mainstream music. Their performances will amplify the festival’s call for equity and change, alongside legendary headliners.
The Global Citizen Festival merges entertainment and activism, offering a platform for world leaders, artists, and advocates to drive progress.
