Nigeria’s very own Nickelxon just dropped his latest EP, “Wild & Innocent”, and honestly? It feels like someone cracked open his journal, turned the emotions into drums, and sprinkled Afrobeats magic all over it.
This is Nickelxon’s most personal project yet — a full-on reflection of everything he’s lived through: love, chaos, loyalty, and the kind of growth that hits you like a plot twist you never saw coming. The EP took nearly a year to build, and you can hear that journey in every layer. There were moments where he doubted himself, but somehow the same experiences that broke him also shaped the music. You hear it in the pain and betrayal of “Spray the Mullar,” and in the gratitude and resilience woven into “Dear Mama” and “Benz.”
Sonically, Wild & Innocent is pure Afro-fusion flexibility. Nickelxon blends Afrobeats, Amapiano, and Afro-swing like someone who knows the rules well enough to break them. And get this — he produced, mixed, and mastered everything himself. Even the bonus tracks, “Champion Dance” and “Benz,” stretch his sound in new ways without losing that authentic Nickelxon energy.
At its core, the EP carries one clear message: keep going. Be grateful. Don’t stop believing. Some of these songs were recorded in his mobile studio, with emotions so heavy that Nickelxon literally cried mid-recording. That’s the level of vulnerability you’re stepping into. And to mark the release, he’s celebrating with a special listening party at The Pulse Night Club in Victoria Island, Lagos — a perfect launch for this new chapter.
Straight out of Warri, Delta State, Nickelxon is a genre-bender who moves effortlessly between Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, and Dancehall. A Computer Science graduate turned full-blown creative powerhouse, he started with drums, bass, and piano before stepping into the spotlight as a singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer. Over the years, he’s collaborated with big names like Peruzzi, Iyanya, Erigga, and Victor AD — all while shaping a sound defined by heavy drums, 808s, lush Afro melodies, and honest storytelling. He also hosts his own live “Music Experience” events three times a year, performing with DJs and bands for crowds as large as 5,000 people, including a stage shared with Davido.
If Wild & Innocent proves anything, it’s that Nickelxon represents the next fearless wave of African talent
