Veteran Ghanaian multi-instrumentalist and composer Delips Apo has officially released his new 11-track album Romeo and Juliet, a richly layered project that blends infectious Afro pop rhythms with contemporary African sounds, marking a new chapter in his decades-long musical journey.
Now available on all major streaming platforms, Romeo and Juliet showcases Delips Apo’s signature fusion of live instrumentation, rhythmic depth, and cross-genre experimentation. The album reflects both his musical heritage and his continued evolution as an artist committed to expanding the boundaries of African sound.
Created in his recording studio in Accra, Ghana, the project highlights his exceptional musicianship. Known for his mastery of keyboards and guitar on stage, Delips Apo is a multi-instrumentalist capable of playing nearly all instruments. For this album, he constructed each track from the ground up, layering drum patterns, basslines, synth riffs, organ melodies, and percussive elements to create a vibrant, dance-driven sonic landscape.
Spanning 11 tracks, Romeo and Juliet is designed as a cohesive body of work that balances energetic, dance-ready rhythms with intricate musical storytelling. The project reflects Delips Apo’s intention to create music that resonates both on the dancefloor and within deeper listening experiences.
Born in Kumasi, Ghana, Delips Apo is an internationally experienced artist whose career spans several decades. He began playing music at the age of 16 and has since worked with more than 15 bands, founding and leading three of his own. His early international breakthrough came through recordings in London with his band Delips and the Godfathers, leading to a CBS-released album in the early 1980s that achieved success across Europe and Africa.
He later continued his rise with the album DADADY, which reached number one on African charts under Stern’s Records, as well as the UK-charting single “I Can Feel the Groove.” His independent projects, including Hula Celebrations and Dideo, further expanded his global reach and creative identity.
Delips Apo’s music today blends Western and African rhythmic traditions with atmospheric synth textures, forming a contemporary sound that draws from funk, soul, reggae, Latin, highlife, blues, and traditional African music. He has also developed his own musical frameworks, Ritual Fusion and Afro Afro, which continue to shape his evolving artistic direction.
Across his career, he has performed in multiple countries, including Freetown, Stockholm, and Copenhagen, with his band KUTASHI, building a reputation for powerful live performances and genre-defying creativity.
Influenced by icons such as Bob Marley, Delips Apo continues to center his artistry around rhythm, cultural storytelling, and musical exploration.
With the release of the 11-track Romeo and Juliet, Delips Apo reinforces his legacy as one of Ghana’s most versatile and enduring musical figures, while continuing to push his sound into new and innovative territories. Listen on all platforms here
